STOP THIEF! PETER'S RICKENBACKER STOLEN IN HELSINKI
from remHQ.com
Sadly, Peter's signature Rickenbacker guitar was stolen from the stage immediately following tonight's performance in Helsinki, Finland. This is Peter's infamous signature Rick, which has been the staple of Peter's arsenal both live and in the studio since the band released Chronictown in 1982. Needless to say, this instrument means a great deal to Peter and to R.E.M. It is our sincere hope that whoever is responsible for the loss, or whoever has information which can help recover the guitar, will come forward to receive a generous reward, no questions asked. Tuatara/Coleman Barks and John Wesley Harding Album news
From Barrett Martin's Myspace site comes the following news about Tuatara's colaboration album with Colman Bark.
Hello Everyone, Well, I have been getting alot of emails from folks asking me for an update on the new Tuatara/Coleman Barks album, so here it is. Coleman, as many of you already know, is the famed American Sufi poet and author of "The Essential Rumi", the best selling poetry book in the history of American publishing. That's funny, considering that Rumi was a 13th century Islamic scholar from Iran with a penchant for witty, yet deeply spiritual poetry. Coleman is a 20th century incarnation of the same spirit, and this new album we are currently finishing up is a collection of his own original poems, as well as some of the classic Rumi poems resurrected with Tuatara providing the music. Tuatara as you all know, is my band with Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey from REM, and this album was recorded in Santa Fe in the deep winter of 2008, when Coleman was in town for his annual Night Of Rumi concert. Peter, Scott, myself, and a few guest musicians all hunkered down at Fast Horse Solar Studios and recorded about 20 spontaneous poem-songs, the best 16 of which will be on this album. Coleman has titled the album "The Here And The Gone", and we are currently talking with our booking agent about an early 2009 world tour, where we would do a full evening of Tuatara's music, with Coleman as the Great Bard, reciting poems throughout the night. As soon as we have anchor dates for the tour, I will start posting them. In the meantime, I will be doing final editing and mixing throughout the summer, and we are aiming for a November 18th street date for the US, Canada, and Europe. I can assure you this is one of the better, deeply spiritual, incredibly humourous albums I have ever had the honor to work on. Does not God have the greatest sense of humor? And are not poets and musicians the messengers? This will be the 7th album for Tuatara and certainly the first for Coleman with an all-star cast of Rock and Roll, Jazz, and World musicians. It will be one of helluva show, if we can pull of this tour! Best wishes to everyone, Barrett Martin And John Wesley Harding has the following news about his album he recorded with the Minus 5 as backing band. Having spoken about the delay of the album, let me now announce the release of the album in March 2009. (Our baby will be six months by then, touch wood, and I can play some music.) That seems a long way off - but you get to hear it much sooner than that. Please watch this space, and your email box (and email be the most efficient way to get you the timeliest news, so if you'd like it direct and first from here, then please email cathy (wesnews@mindspring.com) your email address). Shortly we will announce: 1. How you can get it first (by digital download), and ensure that you are sent one of the very first copies of the actual CD, weeks, if not months, before the actual release dates. 2. News of a NYC gig, for which you (or certain of you who are quick on the draw) will be able to get free tickets. At this gig I, and probably Robert Lloyd, will play a set of Greatest Hits (as we touchingly call them) for a live album to accompany certain copies of the next record. We want to make sure that the house is full of those of you who most want to be at this gig. (Mind you, having won the tickets, you absolutely HAVE to go!) 3. News of other ways to buy the record in advance of its release, including packages with signed artwork, numbered lyric books etc. 4. We are also planning to put up songs from the album, in non-downloadable format, here on my space. These will be up for a VERY limited time only, for your listening pleasure. And then replaced by something less interesting. (Joke, but perhaps true). Yes, we have plans. We're doing the artwork now so expect a title to be announced shortly. Posted on 10 Aug 2008 by Stoffel
