The Lowe Beats release a song on a Nick Lowe Tribute CD
Brewery Records has just released a Nick Lowe tribute CD, LOWE PROFILE: A Tribute to Nick Lowe, a 2 disc release that covers songs from his Brinsley Schwarz years, his recordings with Rockpile, and his solo releases, up through and including his last release, The Convincer.
The Lowe Beats (Scott McCaughey Nick Lowe cover band) recorded "Don't Want The Night To End" for this release and according to the review in Harp Magazine it is one of the stand out tracks. If you go to the Brewery Records site, you can hear samples of all the songs from this album. Other bands on this release include Steve Wynn, Don Dixon, Dave Alvin, Rick Shea & Christy McWilson and many others. The album includes a 16-page booklet with extensive liner notes by executive producer, Walter Clevenger, and an introduction by music critic and author, John Borack. Posted on 12 Mar 2006 by Stoffel
News Round Up
Over the last few days the Minus 5 got some good press, check out a nice write up by Marty Hughley in the Oregonian.
Chris Castaneda contributed an article about The Minus 5 in the "Chicago Interview." But he is so nice to publish his entire interview on his personal blog, be sure to check it out it's really worth it. Another lengthy feature can be found at Neumu, just scroll down to somewhere in the middle of the page. Meanwhile Scott himself wrote a column(a piece about the record that changed his life) in the new Harp Magazine, which is in the newsstands right now. Alternatively you can also read it online. Be sure to browse around the Harp site, as there are some more pieces about Scott and the Minus 5 from previous magazines. The Minus 5 will play one more gig at the SXSW festival, they will play a couple of tunes at Opal Divines in Austin on March the 16th. The Minus 5 is part of the "Gram Jam!", a tribute to Gram Parson organized by Amoeba Records. And here are some more reviews of the record: The Pitt News; Harp Magazine; SF Weekly and Stylus Magazine. Posted on 12 Mar 2006 by Stoffel

25 February - Key Club, Los Angeles, CA
I was fortunate enough to catch The Minus Five w/Robyn Hitchcock at The Key Club in Los Angeles last night. After a one-half hour set by an acoustic soloist from Ireland called Shane, Mssrs. McOi, Buck, Rieflin, and Ramberg hit the stage full-throddle. I don't have a complete set list, but many songs from the new album, "The Minus Five (a.k.a. The Gun Album)" were delightfully represented, including the rowdy set-closer 'Aw Shit Man'. Other songs I remember off the top of my head were 'The Days of Wine & Booze,' and 'Lyrical Stance'.
